Rules for using Self-Engine

These Terms of Service govern the use of Self-Engine, including its website and web application. By registering for or using the service, you agree to these terms.
We aim to operate the service in a stable and secure manner, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. Maintenance, further development, or technical issues may temporarily restrict access.
Self-Engine provides an optional AI assistant that lets you manage your entries using natural language. The feature is disabled by default and can be enabled in the settings. To provide it, we use the third-party service OpenRouter. Details on the processing of personal data can be found in our Privacy Policy.
The responses and suggestions generated by the AI assistant may be incomplete, inaccurate, or incorrect and do not constitute professional advice, in particular not legal, tax, or financial advice. You are responsible for reviewing the outputs before relying on them. The assistant only carries out changes to your data after your explicit confirmation; you are responsible for the actions you confirm.
The feature may be subject to technical limitations, such as usage or cost quotas, and may be changed, restricted, or discontinued at any time. Abusive or excessive automated use of the assistant is not permitted.
Your subscription may include a certain usage quota for the AI assistant; the current quota is displayed to you in the application settings. In the future, we may offer AI usage beyond the included quota (e.g., additional quotas) as an optional, paid add-on. Such an add-on never incurs costs automatically: costs only arise if you expressly order the add-on; the price and scope are clearly displayed to you before ordering, and the order only becomes binding when you click a button that is clearly labeled as triggering a payment obligation.
The AI assistant's responses are presented in the application as contributions from the assistant and are therefore identifiable as AI-generated. Entries that the assistant creates or modifies on your instruction (e.g., time entries or appointments), by contrast, are stored like data you entered yourself and are not separately marked as AI-generated. If you reuse AI-generated content outside of Self-Engine, you are responsible yourself for any required labeling as AI-generated.
Certain features require a user account. You are required to provide accurate information during registration and keep it up to date if it changes.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activities carried out through your account. If you suspect unauthorized use, please notify us without undue delay.
Self-Engine is intended for adults. Minors may use the service only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian. By registering, you confirm that you are of legal age or that the required consent of your legal guardian has been obtained.
The use of Self-Engine requires a paid subscription or – for a limited group of people – free access for friends and testers (see the "Free Access for Friends and Testers" section). The scope, price, and term of the subscription are clearly displayed to you during the ordering process before the contract is concluded. An order for a paid subscription only becomes binding when you click a button that is clearly labeled as triggering a payment obligation.
The subscription costs 6 US dollars (USD) per month; billing is in US dollars. As a small business within the meaning of § 19 UStG (German VAT Act), we do not charge VAT; all stated prices are final prices. Depending on your bank or payment provider, additional currency conversion fees may be charged by your bank, over which we have no control. Payment is processed by our payment service provider Stripe; subscription management is handled technically by our service provider Clerk.
New users receive a one-time free trial period of 30 days. A valid payment method is required to start the trial period. After the trial period expires, the subscription automatically converts into a paid subscription unless you cancel beforehand. We clearly point out the conversion into a paid subscription and the price during the ordering process.
The subscription has a term of one month and automatically renews for successive one-month periods unless it is cancelled. You may cancel the subscription at any time with effect from the end of the current billing period — in the account settings of the application or via the "Cancel contracts here" button on our website. Access to the paid features remains available until the end of the period already paid for.
Price changes apply to new subscriptions from the time they are announced. For existing subscriptions, price changes only take effect if you expressly consent to them. If you do not consent to a price change, your subscription continues at the previous price; in that case, we may terminate it with effect from the end of the current billing period.
If you cancel, fees already paid are not refunded on a pro-rata basis; your access remains available until the end of the paid period. If we terminate the service or your access early, and this is not based on a serious breach on your part, we will refund fees already paid for the period not provided on a pro-rata basis. Mandatory statutory rights, in particular the right of withdrawal and warranty rights for digital products, remain unaffected.
In addition to the paid subscription, we offer a free access option for friends and testers. It is aimed at a limited group of people who use Self-Engine free of charge and help us trial and improve the service. Whether and to whom we grant this access is at our sole discretion; there is no entitlement to be granted free access or to have it maintained. We may make activation subject to conditions at any time, in particular a personal invitation or entry of an invite code.
Free access generally includes the same range of features as the paid subscription. No payment method is required for activation. No costs arise; in particular, free access does not automatically convert into a paid subscription.
Notwithstanding the "Termination" section, we may end free access at any time with 14 days' notice in text form (e.g., by email or by notice within the application), or make continued use conditional on taking out a paid subscription. In that case, a subscription is only concluded if you expressly take it out; the provisions of the "Paid Subscription" section then apply. If you do not take out a subscription, access to the service ends. Your content initially remains stored and becomes available to you again if you later take out a subscription; your right to delete your account at any time remains unaffected.
As use is free of charge, there is no entitlement to any particular availability, to support, or to any particular range of features; individual features may change in the course of testing. In all other respects, the "Service Description" and "Liability and Warranty" sections apply. Mandatory statutory rights remain unaffected.
Consumers have the following statutory right of withdrawal when taking out a paid subscription. A consumer is any natural person who enters into a legal transaction for purposes that are predominantly outside their trade, business, or profession.
You have the right to withdraw from this contract within fourteen days without giving any reason. The withdrawal period is fourteen days from the day the contract is concluded.
To exercise your right of withdrawal, you must inform us (Gwydion Braunsdorf, Marktplatz 7, 87724 Ottobeuren, Germany, email: kontakt@self-engine.com) of your decision to withdraw from this contract by means of an unambiguous statement (e.g. a letter sent by post or an email). You may use the model withdrawal form below, but this is not mandatory.
To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient that you send your notification of exercising the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period expires.
If you withdraw from this contract, we will refund all payments we have received from you without undue delay and at the latest within fourteen days from the day on which we receive notification of your withdrawal from this contract. For this refund, we will use the same means of payment that you used for the original transaction, unless expressly agreed otherwise with you; in no case will you be charged any fees for this refund.
If you requested that the service begin during the withdrawal period, you must pay us a reasonable amount corresponding to the proportion of the services already provided up to the time you inform us of the exercise of the right of withdrawal with regard to this contract, compared to the total scope of the services provided for in the contract.

You agree not to use Self-Engine for unlawful or abusive purposes. In particular, the following is prohibited:
• circumventing security measures or access restrictions
• disrupting, overloading, or impairing the service or its infrastructure
• using the service to distribute unlawful, harmful, or rights-infringing content
• misusing automated access unless explicitly permitted
You retain the rights to the content and data you enter into or create within Self-Engine. To the extent technically necessary, you grant us the rights required to provide the service, store data, synchronize it, and deliver it to your devices.
The processing of personal data is additionally governed by our Privacy Policy.
All rights to Self-Engine, including software, design, trademarks, content, and underlying concepts, remain with us or our licensors. These terms grant you only a simple, revocable, non-transferable right to use the service as intended.
We are liable without limitation in cases of intent, gross negligence, and for damages arising from injury to life, body, or health. In the event of slightly negligent breach of essential contractual obligations, our liability is limited to the typical, foreseeable damage. In all other respects, liability is excluded to the extent permitted by law. Mandatory statutory claims, in particular under consumer law and rules governing digital products, remain unaffected.
You may stop using the service at any time and delete your account. We may restrict or terminate access to Self-Engine only for an objective reason, in particular in the event of serious or repeated breaches of these terms, security risks, abuse, or discontinuation of the service. Where possible, we will provide reasonable prior notice.
We may amend these Terms of Service only where there is a valid legal, technical, or operational reason and the contractual balance is not shifted to your detriment. We will provide clear and timely notice of material changes before they take effect. Where required by law, we will also inform you about any right to object or terminate.
